STYLE GURU STYLE: Bohemian Blues

The bohemian trend has been around for ages and this summer it is back with a fashionable vengeance. Many of the 2015 runway shows featured this flowy, chic and oh-so-cool trend including one of my favorites, Rebecca Taylor. This resort 2016 collection features 16 fabulously bohemian looks with a range of pieces including palazzo pants, textured vests and maxi silhouettes. With summer arriving what better time for all of us to give this trend a try? And achieving this “effortless” style isn’t as hard as you may think!

In order to achieve this look on the streets there are a few things that we need to focus on. The first thing to do is to find pieces that give that “boho chic” flowly feel without looking like they are going to fall off. My go-to store for these pieces has always been Free People. Although somewhat pricey the pieces that I buy here each season never show wear, never tear and go with so many different things. A blouse similar to the one I am wearing is definitely worth the extra cost and is something that I consider a good investment piece in my wardrobe. It can be worn with shorts as so or simply open as a beach cover-up! These pieces give that perfectly oversized look that is the epitome of this trend. But with this trend it is important to note that oversized does NOT mean too big. Most of these pieces are manufactured and made to fit oversized, meaning it’s usually not necessary to go up a size to achieve this look. And you must think in terms of balance when you are styling this look. For example, I wouldn’t pair this oversized blouse with a maxi skirt because the silhouette would overwhelm my frame. Instead, pair your oversized items with more fitted pieces in order to create balance.

I chose these adorable embroidered denim shorts that fit well and go with the overall bohemian trend. Choose pieces that have a little something special like distressing, a cool button or an embroidered pattern like these shorts in order to add interest to the look and really make it your own. Try even looking in some vintage or consignment stores(something that I do frequently) to find those one-of-a-kind pieces. And as always don’t forget to accessorize! I chose my go-to Jeffrey Campbell booties as well as my everyday watch and an arrowhead necklace. The smallest details are what creates an outfit and makes it you! Cannot wait to see how all of you interpret this runway trend into your everyday wardrobes!
