STYLE GURU STYLE: Black Never Goes Out of Style

What’s my go-to color for every occasion? Black. So, it’s obvious that when I saw Alexander Wang’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I was pretty smitten. I’m in love with the way that even though the collection is entirely black, Wang found a way to keep each piece interesting by playing with textures and silhouettes. Leather jackets intermixed with fishermen sweaters and absolutely insane platform boots, need I say more?

The head-to-toe black of looks one through 21 were my source of inspiration for this look. While I didn’t have the angst to channel the heavy-metal goth vibe Wang’s collection exuded, I definitely made my attempt to mix and match texture while keeping my color palette as black as possible. I started my look with a simple black tank dress. Seriously, this dress is as basic as it gets. The cotton material and razorback allowed for a base for me to build upon. The next addition to my look is a black tweed bomber jacket to add some seriously needed texture. I love that the fabric of the bomber jacket is preppy while the cut keeps it from being too yacht club-inspired.

I chose to break up the all-black with a pair of dark wash denim and a black and white cross-body bag. While head to toe black is chic as can be, it’s not exactly the most wearable for the everyday. I didn’t totally lose sight of my inspiration, though. I opted for a pair of black suede booties to finish the look off with a new texture.

Get My Look: 1. A black bomber jacket 2. A tank dress. 3. Suede booties. 4. Dark wash denim.
