STYLE GURU STYLE: Black is the New Black

Oftentimes black gets a bad rep in the summertime. We are always blaming it for “absorbing too much heat” and reprimand it for being, well, too dark… this is so NOT the case! So make way clean whites because this summer is all about black.  Black is exceptionally easy to wear, it is perfect for pretty much any and every occasion, it matches everything and above all it is extremely flattering on all body types. Watching Alexander Wang’s spring 2015 collection was all I needed to channel my inner Morticia and join the dark side. I hope this post does the same for you.

I am constantly wowed and inspired by Alexander Wang. His spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection was exactly the change in fashion I’ve always wished to see in these warmer months. Mostly a collection of black garments- leather, mesh, wide-legged pants, cut outs, etc.–all walked down his runway. There are endless ways to perfectly rock a black outfit as the temperature begins to rise.

Although I decided to take the use of mesh, leather and mini skirts from this collection and translate it into my own look, there are five Alexander Wang approved ways to darken your summer wardrobe that I specifically adore: 1. Cut It Out. Strategically made cutouts make it possible for ventilation to occur while also making you look elegant and just a perfect bit scandalous. Despite any misconceptions, not all cutouts have to reveal any inch of your midsection. For a more subtle adoption of this trend, go for some cutout shoulder action. 2. Go with the flow. Palazzo pants are whimsical on their own but in the form of a jumpsuit? They are really something else. Any wide-legged  jumpsuit is an easy breezy way to wear black all summer long. 3. Just skirtin’ around—you can in fact still stay cool while rocking a midi skirt with full coverage. A skirt that has a lace or sheer overlay will give the illusion of a full skirt but will not carry the weight of one. 4. Keep it short and sweet (or spicy). A leather mini skirt or shorts are an excellent choice to add that risque factor to your summer wardrobe. If you are not a leather fan, high waisted black shorts are also a great choice. 5. Just loosen up. Yes, there is a time and a place for structured clothing but a hot summer day is definitely not it. Pair loose black pants with a half tucked in relaxed black tank top to achieve an effortlessly beautiful look.

Get My Look: 1. A black mini. 2. A mesh top. 3. A pair of refined heels.
