STYLE GURU STYLE: Black Is the New Black

My favorite color is black. Some people think it’s scary or depressing or boring, but I think it’s perfect. I do get called out, however, for wearing too much black (if that’s even possible). If you like wearing black, but need ways to mix up your all black look, here are some tips.

First of all, the warmer seasons are the perfect times to wear black. While many argue that black is too dark for spring or summer, I think the heat provides a perfect opportunity to disguise an all black outfit. The main reason is that you don’t have to cover your entire body in black. You can wear black dresses, shorts, and shoes, while showing some skin to break it up. Opt for a flowy skirt to add some movement to your look. Also, sandals with texture help make black seem more exciting.
Next, try wearing some denim. Denim is not a color. A simple denim jacket or some denim shorts can quickly soften a look. You can even try embroidered denim. The subtle stars on the jacket I’m wearing add some much needed detail to an otherwise plain outfit.
Finally, what better way to brighten up an outfit than with some jewelry? I love a layered look, so try pairing a bunch of similar bracelets, or staggering all your favorite necklaces. This will add some pop and shine to any all black look.
If you still feel bland, try funky sunglasses, a cool makeup look, or bright nail polish to provide some color and texture. I hope these tips help take your all black outfits to the next level!
