STYLE GURU STYLE: Back To Black

I absolutely fell in love with Alexandre Vauthier’s fall 2014 couture show. Each look was better than the next. I think the reason I loved it so much was the flow of the black accents throughout every look. I have a new obsession with bringing back the ’80s, which seems to be making a comeback, and this show definitely proved that. Many of the models featured tops and jackets with broad shoulders. Also, some of the patterns were very geometric, which was a popular trend throughout the ’80s and ’90s. The use of these bold and broad tops made each look stand out as unique, even if it only featured a single color.

I tried to channel this kind of look with my broad, fur vest. I also wore it like they did in the ’80s with a choker, which I just bought in the city this past weekend at Topshop. Although there were a lot of looks that were bold and filled with color in the  show, most of them were simple and all-black. I tried to mix this combination with my fur vest that I picked up at Nordstrom. In an attempt to keep it simple, I just threw on a pair of jeans and a black bodysuit that looked perfect underneath my vest.

Although I always wear black, this show inspired me to take the next step and not be afraid to be a little bold. I chose to make my look more casual, so I picked blue jeans, but you could easily dress this look up and throw on a pair of leather leggings or nice black pants. I couldn’t be more thrilled to see the broad, bold, ’80s fashion making a comeback!
