STYLE GURU STYLE: Back to Black

It is a well-known fact that black is always chic, so who’s to say that this fashion-101 tip does not apply to the summer months? Although the heat of summer may conjure up images of bright floral patterns and vibrant corals, there is nothing wrong with keeping it simple and classic with an all-black ensemble. Givenchy’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection proved that an all-black look is suitable for the toasty weather that follows the crisp spring season. Givenchy’s epic line included little black dresses with some major cutouts. Threaded criss-cross patterns littered necklines and shoe wear. The collection utilized lightweight, sheer materials such as lace and sleek leather pieces for a nice contrast as well as relief from the heat. Airy fabrics as well as short skirt lengths lacked the cumbersome quality many may have expected from the line’s aesthetic. So despite warm temperatures, these looks proved that you can rock black without breaking a sweat in the summer.

Following Givenchy’s flawless designs, I donned a solid black romper for my look. The cotton romper is extremely soft and composed of a lightweight material, allowing for breathing room and mobility for any summer activity. The romper also features a nice draping detail in the front (complete with a plunging neckline) as well as pockets for a casual yet polished feel. I accompanied the simple romper with a pair of strappy black gladiator sandals. These Free People sandals are my favorite latest purchase as they are extremely versatile; their straps can be tied in a variety of different ways depending on your mood, so you are not locked into one style. For this ensemble, I chose to tie them in a criss-cross pattern to add dimension to a fairly basic look. These shoes are perfect for summer and are resurfacing as a major trend among fashion lovers who are not afraid to take a risk. I completed my outfit with a black and white tote to pull together the outfit in a simple yet sophisticated manner. All-black never looked (or felt) so good.
