STYLE GURU STYLE: Back in Black (And Blue!)

One of the things that inspires me most about designers in the fashion world is their talent to keep a trend going throughout several seasons. The leather jacket is a classic staple in any wardrobe, no matter one’s style. This timeless piece can change the vibe of any ensemble.

Pairing a leather jacket with different textures (formerly viewed as a fashion taboo) such as velvet or denim is another way to create an interesting spin to an outfit. This is exactly what Andreas Melbostad did with Diesel Black Gold for their pre-fall 2016 collection. Something I have always admired with this design label in particular is their consistent ability to stay true to their overall image, while always adding a new twist with each collection. This line features heavy jackets and boxy silhouettes on top balanced out by leg-bearing mini skirts or tight denim jeans. All while keeping with a color scheme of black and dark blue. The mixing of denim, leather and velvet explores a new look at how to put together a visually pleasing ensemble.

I translated these trends into my own outfit by wearing a dark blue texturized knit top with black chino pants embellished with zippers and rough seams on the legs. To tie it all together, I threw on my trusty leather jacket and chunky Dr. Martens. The dark colors and heaviness of the outfit made me feel right at home in my rebellion against conforming to trends of the current season.

Whether your style is girly and classic, simple and minimalistic or quirky and loud; a leather jacket is bound to fit in effortlessly with any outfit. I could even take it from day to night by changing from combat boots to some lace-up booties. The leather jacket is the perfect fit for any occasion, any wardrobe and any Fashionista.

Get My Look: 1. A rad pair of jeans 2. Some rockin’ combat boots 3. A leather jacket.
