STYLE GURU STYLE: Army Parka

For this look, I was inspired by Marc Jacobs and Gucci’s spring 2015 collections. After seeing a high-fashion take on iconic military green pieces, I couldn’t resist heading to the nearest shopping mall and grabbing some military-inspired pieces for myself. After shopping around, I discovered that there are so many great options to choose from and different alternatives for different body types and styles. Some pieces that caught my eye were military green dresses, joggers and even jumpsuits.

After a long day of searching for the perfect military green piece, I stumbled upon a huge military green parka crumpled on the ground of the sale section. Although I am only a size two and the parka was a size 14, I took a chance and carried it to the fitting room anyway. Standing in front of the dressing room mirror, it was love at first sight. I was instantly drawn to how loose and comfortable the parka was. Not only was the fabric soft, but the large size allowed for maximum comfort and movement. I thought about what I’d wear the parka with, and eventually realised that I could wear it with essentially anything. From skinny jeans, dresses and shorts, there was not a single thing that I couldn’t wear that amazing parka with. It was then that I knew I definitely had to buy it.

For a friend’s outdoor birthday party, I decided to pair the military green parka with a basic black crop top and some black wrap crochet shorts. This outfit allowed for me to stay cool in the heat, but also stay dry in case it started to rain. In theme with the earthy-tone of the parka, I paired my outfit with my favourite cognac heels. Although they look really tall and painful, they are the most comfortable heels I have ever owned. To finish off my outfit, I accessorised by pairing matching tribal necklaces with a tribal bracelet that I found at a local thrift shop.

Get My Look: 1. Any black romper. 2. A military green parka. 3. Chunky cognac heels.
