STYLE GURU BIO: Zara Bettis

Hello everyone! My name is Zara Bettis, and I guarantee that half of you are pronouncing my name wrong, but that’s okay! It’s just like the name Sarah, but with a Z and no H! This is my first semester as a Style Guru, and I am so excited for what’s to come!

I am 21 years old and I am a proud Alaskan, but I currently reside in Tempe, Arizona. I’m a fourth-year student at Arizona State University studying communications in the hopes of becoming a fashion publicist. Fashion is such an exciting and unpredictable industry, and I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in it, but not in fashion design. At the age of 17 I discovered the DKNY PR girl, Aliza Licht. I’ve wanted to become a fashion PR girl myself ever since. I have developed a passion for all aspects of the fashion PR industry, I want to represent fashion brands, write press releases, handle brands’ social media, select pieces for celebrities to wear to events, and plan events and fashion shows. That is my ultimate goal.

When it comes to fashion, I have never been afraid to think outside the box. I’m one of those people that finds a new trend and becomes obsessed with it for a period of time. When I was in middle school, I was really into colored skinny jeans (for some reason), and in high school the only thing that I wore was floral blouses with cardigans. Thankfully, my fashion sense has evolved as I have grown older, and today I get my inspiration from the bohemian style: loose, off-the-shoulder shirts, shift dresses, booties, and especially chokers! I love how comfortable and carefree it is, but also extremely stylish. For this outfit, I took a pair of hunter green Urban Outfitters jeans and paired it with one of my favorite floral Free People shirts, it’s loose-fitting and has a high neckline, so I don’t need to worry about a necklace! To complete my look, I threw on a pair of beige Treasure & Bond booties so that the other colors could pop.

Throughout this semester, not only do I hope to inspire others with my personal style, but I also hope to get inspired by my fellow Fashionistas and Fashionistos!
