STYLE GURU BIO: Vasiliki Bitsas

How’s it going Fashionistas/os? I’m Vasiliki and I am back at it for another RAD semester with CollegeFashionista…my third semester to be exact! I’m now a junior at Mercyhurst University studying fashion but also minoring in communications in hopes that one day I will be sitting at my desk in the city of my dreams, typing up the latest article about the “color of the year” or which bag is in and which one is out.

For us Fashionistas and Fashionistos, life can be filled with our peers judging us, wondering if we’ll ever find a job or “is what we’re studying even a real career?” Seemingly too often we have to knock them off their high horses and remind them that everyone wears clothes and in order for people to have clothes, there has to be several careers surrounding it—and yes, that unfortunately means cargo pants too.

It’s so difficult to decide what you want to do with your life when you’re 18 and not even have graduated high school yet. Thankfully, I can say that fashion has always been a part of my life plan in one way or another. This past semester I traveled abroad to Paris, France and was immersed into one of the most influential fashion capitals of the world. Ever since I stepped foot onto Parisian soil and witnessed a street style that wasn’t Erie, Pennsylvania, there wasn’t a doubt in my mind that I made the right decision a few years back.

Getting dressed in the morning is my favorite part of the day. It gives me an opportunity to showcase myself to the world, to give them a quick view of who I am and what I am about. For me, dark colors are a huge part of my wardrobe – not because I am in mourning or sad, but just because I like them. Unfortunately, the summer months are not the most ideal for dark colors, but since the weather hasn’t quite beat record highs yet, they will be the first things I pick out of my closet. Pastels are also some of my favorite things, like the shorts I have featured in my photos. I love to dress things up a little so this vest is a great addition. I paired it with a plain gray long sleeve shirt and a pair of black booties.

Stay cool and stylish this summer!
