STYLE GURU BIO: Taylor Carney

Hello Fashionistas/os! I’m Taylor Carney and I am a freshman fashion design student at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York. This semester I am lucky enough to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and I could not be more excited!

I originally come from Livingston, New Jersey. New Jersey is a melting pot of styles and cultures; so growing up there I really got to see a lot of different types of people and styles. I am also lucky enough to be located only a half hour from New York City, so I always got to go visit and see the latest street fashion. This kind of atmosphere allowed me to see so many different styles and really create a look that stand out and is unique for me.

Marist College is a very fashionable school. Due to the high amount of Fashion Design and Merchandising majors, it is easy to find someone who is dressed up just to go to class. Even many of the non-fashion majors dress very well! This is a big change for me, because in my hometown most people chose to stay very casual and often wear athleticwear throughout the day.

My own personal style is more grunge, but very casual. I love leather pieces and studs, but also bold graphics. Many of my looks contain classic black staple pieces with a bright piece for a pop of color. I paired my distressed black jeans with a bright graphic tee and my favorite leather jacket. I kept my accessories simple with a striped infinity scarf and stud earrings. For shoes, I wore a pair of black combat boots that have a low chunky heel.

This semester I will be writing about all of the fashionable looks I see every day on campus. There are so many fashionable people on my campus and I can’t wait to share some of their looks with you!
