STYLE GURU BIO: Taylor Baumberger

Taylor is my name and to be honest I don’t have much game. I’m just a small town girl pursuing my big city dreams at Kent State University. This semester will be my third as a fashion design major. I’m excited to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team for the first time this summer.

My love for fashion started when I was three years old, according to my mom. I guess that’s when I started putting together killer outfits and I haven’t stopped since then. When I was eight I learned how to make those killer outfits and now I am designing them. I am so thankful my mom saw that spark and never allowed me to blow it out. I have always struggled articulating my emotions verbally and both fashion and writing have served as a safe haven ever since I can remember. There is something so beautiful about the way each person has a unique method of putting words together—I think that is something worth sharing. The same goes for fashion because each person has a style distinct to them.

Speaking of style, I would describe my own as, your-not-so-drab-grandma. I have always been drawn to more mature clothing. Being a broke college student paying my own way through has definitely helped shape my distinct style. Thrifting has become my go-to way of shopping. This snake print lightweight coat was picked up at Volunteers of America. My black, microsuede shoes were found at the local Goodwill—The hunt is always worth it. I have a deep appreciation for the history of fashion, which has also had a large influence on this style of mine.

Aside from my desire to create beautiful works, I live for mini road trips with genuine souls, antique hunting on warm summer days and a well writing book to curl up with on a rainy afternoon. I am looking forward to seeing how much this experience helps improve my skills in writing, styling and photography. I can’t wait to share my RAD style finds with you this summer.
