STYLE GURU BIO: Sydney Helphenstine

Hey, fellow Fashionistas/os! I’m so excited to be working and connecting with you all this semester! This will be my third semester here at CollegeFashionista, and I am so happy to be returning. I absolutely love writing about something I love and cherish so much! I am currently a student at Marymount University and I am majoring in fashion merchandising with a minor in both fashion design and business. This semester will be the beginning of my spring semester for my sophomore year at Marymount and I absolutely love it here! Plus, I get to study something I love every day, what could be better?

I currently have a blog and hope to really work that into a brand/ business after I finish with my educational career at Marymount. Whether that be working and writing for my own website and keeping up with my own photo shoots or going on to work for a magazine and contributing to their photo shoots and articles. I really enjoy working with social media, so that is another career path I am looking into as well. My overall goal with my degree is to eventually work my way into editorial and become a fashion editor for a magazine. I mean who wouldn’t want to be the next Grace Coddington or Anna Wintour? Styling sets and editing a magazine would definitely be what I consider living the dream.

Fashion has always been something I have loved and I would describe my style as a complete mix of things but overall very chic and trendy. I like to try all kinds of styles and trends, whether that be something a little more edgy or something super sophisticated. I love trying the newest and latest trends and I’ve definitely realized not to be afraid to go outside the box when it comes to fashion. Lately, I have loved thrifty really different or unique pieces of clothing and turning them into something super cool. I also love vintage looks lately, like accessorizing with scarves and bits of fur or plaid. I think little touches like that make for amazing looks. For my simple look today, I decided to take a pair of vintage boyfriend jeans and pair them with a simple turtle neck. I decided to spice up the outfit a bit with a pair of checkered vans. Little pops of spunk and flare are what I believe to be a fun aspect of fashion.

I can’t wait to interact with you all this semester and read all of your articles! Cheers to a rad semester!
