STYLE GURU BIO: Shey Aponte

What’s up Fashionistas!? My name is Shey and I hail from a too small, but adorable little town in New Jersey. I am beyond thrilled to be a part of the CollegeFashionista Style Guru team and excited to see where this internship takes me!

Ever since I was young, my inspirations have been shaped by patterns, trends and styles. Although a Marketing major by day, style and dress is a passion of mine that moves far beyond the classroom and well into the night. My looks tend to be influenced by eccentric Fashionistas like Leandra Medine, Solagne Knowles, Nicole Richie and the Olsen twins, who all add a little twist and flare to their wardrobes. These women have inspired me to take risks with my clothing and stand out from the crowd, rocking my cheetah print coat on a cold campus when everyone else is wearing a North Face.

As a college student, I have noticed that people tend to fall into the same patterns when they get dressed everyday. Fashion, for me, is more than just what I wear; it is how I wear it. Fashion is not something that should be taken too seriously and that’s the concept I try to provoke when I put together different outfits. My style is always evolving and I wouldn’t be able to box myself into a specific category of dress. My look depends on how I feel, but I always make sure to dress for myself because prancing around in clothes that make you feel happy and confident is the key to successful style!

My above look encompasses the baggy and casual street style look. There is nothing more exciting than pairing boyfriend jeans with retro platform sandals. Most of my closet is comprised of vintage sweaters and bags, which I detail in the above outfit. I love pieces that look and feel a little worn. There is something about falling into a pair of boots or a comfy sweater that has been worn by someone else before. It makes the piece more valuable, more lovable.

This semester, I teamed up with a friend of mine to create my first ever fashion and lifestyle blog, where we document our generations take on fashion and style. Check it out if you’re feeling funky fresh!
