STYLE GURU BIO: Sheila Swibes

My name is Sheila Swibes and I will be a sophomore at Purdue University in the fall. I will continue studying Marketing to pursue a career in the fashion world. Fashion and journalism have been passions of mine since I was a young girl. I learned the ropes of fashion from my older sister, and journalism came naturally to me. CollegeFashionista has brought the two together to make a dream internship for me! I will be posting about current fashion trends in the Chicagoland area this summer.

Having an older sister has its perks when it comes to fashion. I was given all of her fabulous hand me downs growing up, and eventually learned to venture out on my own when buying clothes thanks to her help. I have found over the years that knowing my closet inside and out was a huge benefit when it came to shopping. If I found a shirt I liked in a store, I was able to imagine every different item of clothing I could pair it with that I already owned. This not only saved me money, but also gave me a talent for mix and matching my wardrobe. I have become very confident in my wardrobe choices over the past few years, and I have learned to embrace my style and not worry about what others may think.

As a college student, I realized quickly that these four years are about finding your identity. Many people like to express this with their style, and my style changes from day to day. One day I’ll been in a hobo chic mood, when others I’ll embrace my inner Rachel Green and throwback to the ’90s. I like to test out all the different trends because you’ll never truly know how you feel about a style until you’ve tried it on for size. I encourage everyone to do the same. Dip your toes in the water or jump right in. Fashion is meant to break boundaries, so break them.

I plan to showcase all of the beautiful people and fashion I come across this summer, no matter the day or place. I hope to inspire at least one person with my posts to take a chance with fashion and themselves.
