STYLE GURU BIO: Sharvelle Bullock

Hello loves! My name is Sharvelle Bullock. I’m from a small suburb outside of the city of Chicago. I am a third year Journalism student at Illinois State University with a minor in Spanish Language. This is my first semester as a Style Guru. I am super excited and grateful for the opportunity to share this with you all.

I found out about CollegeFashionista from other ISU students interested in the fashion industry. Besides music and old movies, fashion is one of my greatest loves. To me, it isn’t just about “matching clothes” and “cool colors”. It is an art form; there’s so much more to it than what meets the eye. Blair Waldorf from the teen series, Gossip Girl, said it best: “Fashion is the most powerful art there is. It is movement, design and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and who we’d like to be.”

Since I was 11 years old, the fashion industry has always captured my attention. So much so that I decided that I wanted to make a career out of it. Over the years, I have dabbled in many areas of the industry: writing, styling, sewing and even designing. It is a goal of mine to write and design editorials for a publishing company in New York. So writing for CollegeFashionista, as well as working on my own blog, will help me better improve my skills.

As far as my style, I am very “collaborative.” I like to mix trends especially, grunge and formal wear. I also really like to play around with colors and patterns.  Fashion is a physical portrait of how you feel and what you’re thinking. With that being said, since change is inevitable in life, it should be the same in your wardrobe. My favorite thing in my closet right now is my pair of burgundy booties that I bought online at Forever 21.

I am super thrilled to take this journey and I can’t wait to see where the road takes me. Buckle in, I’m sure it’s going to be a joy ride.
