STYLE GURU BIO: Savannah Riese

Hey, there! My name is Savannah, but most of my friends call me “Sav”! This is my first semester with CollegeFashionista! I just finished up my sophomore year as an Advertising & Spanish double major at Bradley University. Minnesota is where I was raised but Peoria, IL is the place I currently call home. I am a music fanatic and *only slightly* a caffeine addict. My heart belongs to Caribou Coffee crafted press, Starbucks iced caramel macchiatos, Calvin Klein, New York City, my red Honda Accord named Rhonda and the color black. You can find me listening to Pink Floyd, eating Flaming Hot Cheetos and endlessly scrolling through Pinterest (probably all at the same time). Some of my guilty pleasures include jamming out to Jason Derulo, wearing baseball hats, dreaming about traveling, ear piercings, and black clothing. I am also obsessed with Shonda Rhimes—Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder are my jams. With summer right around the corner, I can’t wait to spend days serving on the patio at my job, adventuring around Minneapolis and St. Paul and drinking an endless amount of iced coffee!

But enough about my life and more about my fashion choices. To be completely honest with you, I don’t think it’s possible for me to put a particular label on what I would consider my style to be. I sat in my room staring at my closet for about 10 minutes before shooting a text to my best friends saying “SOS help! How would you describe my fashion taste?” The one word they all came back with was “unique.” I usually try to take more trendy, urban outfits and put my own twist on them by adding older styled pieces. Having the ability to utilize fashion as another outlet to express myself is something I have always appreciated because I can adjust it however and whenever I please! I love that I can wear a dress and flats one day and then Converse and a sweater the next day yet still convey a similar message about myself. I absolutely love professional wear and try to incorporate blazers and/or pencil skirts into my everyday style choices. Distinctive and “out there” jewelry is also my go-to. I love to scour thrift stores for chunky pins, ’50s and ’60s style earrings and various necklaces! My other go-to staple items would be my chambray shirt, army green vest and my studded, black, pointed-toe flats.

My wallet’s cause of death is the fact that I am a firm believer in the phrase “you can never own too much black clothing.” You can see this modeled perfectly with my combination of black booties, a black Calvin Klein top and a black wicker hat. I decided to go with a more subtle jewelry pick due to the louder statement from the blouse.

I’m going to leave you Fashionistas here with a favorite quote of mine: “All things are possible with enough coffee and mascara.”
