STYLE GURU BIO: Rose Matthews

Hello, fellow fashion lovers! My name is Rose and I am a junior at Pace University, pursuing a BFA in commercial dance. I’m originally from the D.C. suburbs of northern Virginia, but my heart belongs to New York City. This is my first semester as a Style Guru and I could not be more excited to join the CollegeFashionista family.

Dancing is my one true love, but I think fashion goes hand in hand when it comes to the performing arts. Style has so much to do with dance and the styles I see, while I pursue my dreams of Broadway, continually inspire me. One of my favorite things about living in New York City is that no one is afraid to show who they are and express themselves, whether it be through fashion, performing or something else that makes them unique. My own personal style is constantly evolving as I explore the world of fashion. When Manhattan is your campus, the possibilities are endless and I want to try as many new things as possible. This doesn’t just apply to fashion, but in all aspects of my life. New experiences are what make life so exciting to me.

My look today is a perfect example of my style: functional and edgy. Comfy, oversized tops like this are super easy to wear, because they give you a lot of options. I chose my favorite pair of jeans and boots with a small heel, to give me a little bit of height, since I’m only 5’1. My lovely mother let me borrow this necklace to give my outfit just little bit of glam. Having a warm winter is kind of concerning, but being able to wear a cool, casual outfit like this in December is alright with me!

I am particularly excited to share the fashion that Pace has to offer, because my fellow classmates really know how to rock a killer look. Pace attracts driven individuals who know who they are and what they want, and I think this conveys very well in the students fashion. New York City can be extremely chaotic, but channeling that energy into something positive creates an environment full of opportunities that I fully intend to take advantage of.  I can’t wait to see what adventures this semester has in store and I look forward to sharing it with you all!
