STYLE GURU BIO: Rachel Halpin

Hey there, fellow Fashionistas/os! My name’s Rachel, and I am currently a sophomore studying fashion merchandising at Mercyhurst University. I have written for CollegeFashionista this past semester, as well as over the summer, and I am super excited to be back for another rad semester. I find great pleasure in writing. I enjoy sharing my ideas and thoughts with the world. I definitely enjoy writing about fashion, as it’s something that is so present in my everyday life. Which is why I can’t wait to share my take on fashion with each and every one of you!

Fashion is one of the most powerful and cultivating sectors of today’s society. It is more than just an industry. It is a unique asset that each and every individual carries. Everyone has a different sense of style, and that’s okay. In fact, if this were different, the world would be full of bland, robot-like humans walking around in trends they were told are popular. Thank god this is not the case. Fashion is fun, and it should be appreciated.

I think fashion poses an unease to many people. They think they need to subscribe to one specific style, which is not the case. Changing up your style is healthy. Fashion, in essence, is a huge determinant of how others view us. With that being said, if you feel confident in whatever you’re sporting, then that same confidence will beam onto those you encounter.

I have been lucky to learn this over the years, as I have had plenty of time to experiment with a wide array of styles. Being so free in my approach to fashion was crucial in the development of my own personal style; something that is so unique to me.

For this outfit, I channeled a more classic and clean look. The moment I saw this corduroy lace-up skirt I knew I had to have it. It is the perfect piece to start the fall off with a bang. It’s simple, yet striking, as the color and texture are so bold. Since the skirt is so major itself, I paired it with a simple white V-neck bodysuit, which is my new go-to piece. The neutral color paired with the simplistic nature of the silhouette are perfect for amping up a simple pair of jeans or a slim fitting pencil skirt. To top the look off, I wore my new gold tiered necklace, which I LOVE! It’s so different, and it helps take this look to a dressier level.

I had so much fun showcasing my very own personal style with you. I can’t wait to give you a glimpse into the world of fashion here at my home away from home, Mercyhurst University. I hope that this post has inspired all the fellow Fashionistas/os out there to embrace the world of style. Don’t limit yourself, and let your confidence shine!
