STYLE GURU BIO: Natalie Barbu

Hi there, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Natalie Barbu and I am so stoked to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this summer. I go to North Carolina State University and unlike many of my peers and girlfriends, I am majoring in Industrial Engineering. Although I am one of the odd ones who love calculus and problem solving, I have an undeniable love for anything related to fashion and street style. I am thrilled to be showcasing all of the Fashionista/os’ at North Carolina State University’s distinct campus style.

After only one short year of college, I have already learned so much about myself that I never believed could happen in only nine fast-paced months. College is a place to make mistakes and change your mind, and it is also a place to experiment with your personal style. I have found so many sources for inspiration just from a short 10 minute walk to class than I ever did in my four years of high school. Entering college, I was terrified of what others would think of me, if I would fit in and I prayed that I would find my circle of friends and my niche. Luckily, I realized that people do not care as much of the so called, “weird” things you are into, but they are all trying to find their place in school, just like you.

I secretly started a YouTube channel, BeautyByNatXO, my sophomore year of high school and kept it a secret until I entered college. My YouTube channel consists of beauty, fashion, and also a glimpse into my everyday life. I love being in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes during the editing process. Even though it is something I love, I was so ashamed and nervous of what people thought of me. In college, I realized what I do is unique and I love it, so I want to share it. I got such a positive response and realized it truly is what I love to do. Now, I pour my heart into my channel and work hard on making my viewers happy.

My YouTube has inspired me to be myself, as well as affected my style and my love for clothing, fashion and style. Not only has my YouTube channel inspired me, but my peers inspire me, as well. When people ask me to describe my style in one word, I cannot think of a simple one. I would love to say bohemian, yet I love being edgy. I could also say feminine, but I know I love rocking my flannel, ripped up jeans and Converse way too much.  So to sum it all up, I would say my style is a mix of what I am feeling that day and the people that had inspired me that week. With that being said, I cannot wait to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this summer and to see how all of YOU inspire me!
