STYLE GURU BIO: Natalia Acosta

Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Natalia Acosta and I am so stocked to be a part of this spring’s Style Guru team. I am a sophomore at the University of Texas at El Paso and I am majoring in industrial engineering. I also work as an undergraduate research assistant at a Biomechanics Lab on campus.

Fashion has always been present in my life. I am the youngest out of all my cousins, so I grew up seeing them getting ready and learning from their dos and don’ts. Being the youngest I received many hand-me-downs over the years; I wasn’t always excited about them but it was my start in finding my style. Rings became my obsession and I acquire a new set of rings every few months.

Even though I am majoring in something that has nothing to do with fashion, it is still something that I believe can be pursued as well as my career of choice. Ever since Project Runway came out on TV I have seen all seasons and watched re-runs of the show. The way each different designer interprets fashion is unique. Being able to draw inspiration from watching as well as my own everyday life has given me my unique style.

My style inspiration comes from Aimee Song of @songofstyle and Kirsten Zellers of @kirstenzellers on Instagram. Their minimalistic and polished looks have a casual flair to them that are geared toward my style. I have a casual vibe that is comfortable to wear to school but it is also modern yet classic with some edge.

In this look I am wearing a Forever 21 plaid shirt and Forever 21 skinny jeans, which I rolled up to a cropped pant. A blue quilted jacket and boots complement the look and to add to my personal style I am wearing midi rings.

I’m ecstatic to be a part of this team! Stay tuned for more upcoming posts this semester!
