STYLE GURU BIO: Michaila Lucas

Hey fashionable friends!

My name is Michaila Lucas, and I could not have been more shocked and excited to learn I would be joining the CollegeFashionista team as a Style Guru for the spring 2017 semester. I am very much looking forward to writing for you all, as well as for myself, as this site allows so many of us to learn, grow, and begin our careers early.

I am currently a sophomore at Kent State University, majoring in fashion merchandising with minors in fashion media and Spanish. Ever since I was little I have always loved fashion, from playing dress up with play makeup, to not leaving for school until I was sure even my gym uniform was as stylish as possible. You might be able to imagine how growing up with school uniforms was difficult for me. It was not until college provided me with more freedom and the chances to experiment everyday with my outfits, hair, and makeup, that I decided fashion, one hundred percent, would become my future.

Fashion is a forever evolving art form which allows me to express who I am or who I want to be everyday. I would not say I have a single style exactly; I do tend to lean toward bohemian or vintage style clothing the most with lots of accessories. While I enjoy shopping the new trends, I am also one to keep an eye out for deals; I have often found the clearance rack to be my friend. I also love to thrift shop and discover unique items I may not be able to find elsewhere.

You will frequently find me in skirts and dresses, even if I’m headed to class in 20 degree weather. I love my tan, button down, suede skirt because it is so versatile; I can dress it up or down, and wear it for any season. As an added bonus, it is extremely comfortable. The sheer patterned tights and black leather booties contribute to warmth and fashion for the wintertime.

The combination of the patterned top and oversize sweater aid in creating two different yet distinct styles. The sweater, paired with a leather clutch and simple jewelry creates a comfortable and casual, everyday look. Lose the sweater to create a new, chic look, especially if paired with heels and ornate jewelry.

Looking forward to creating and sharing rad looks with all of you.
