STYLE GURU BIO: Megan Quist

Bonjour, my fellow fashion lovers to all the Fashionistas and Fashionistos out there! My name is Megan Quist and I’m so excited to continue at CollegeFashionista as this is my second semester writing. Currently I am attending the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, with a major in retail merchandising and a minor in management. As a junior already more than half done with my college career, I have hit the stressful time of landing an internship. My main recommendation for career advice has been the novel Leave Your Mark By Aliza Licht who is the SVP for Donna Karan International.

My infatuation with fashion peaked in the eighth grade when Gossip Girl premiered. Although my mom did not think the show was appropriate, I sneakily watched each and every episode. The elite, high fashion life was so intriguing. In high school, the fashion studies class took a trip to New York City. We got a behind-the-scenes look at Project Runway designers and Jessica Simpson’s clothing line (as well as a giant fabulous bag of free clothes). From then I was hooked and knew I wanted to study retail merchandising in college. This May I will be completing a May study term in NYC and I cannot wait!

My style is very girly. I would much rather put on a skirt with a statement necklace than leggings and a sweatshirt. In my opinion it takes the equivalent amount of time to put on something nice versus a sweatshirt, so why not look your best and beat out the rest? The look featured is a business casual.

Although they are competitors, Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors are my top favorites. My gold with a light leather band Marc Jacobs watch is an all time go-to, I also cannot get enough of his purses. Michael Kors has made a great cowl neck sweater. These are less restricting than turtlenecks, but still add a subtle amount of detail. The bandage skirt is long enough for business, while staying away from that long “grandma” look that some loose fitted to-the-knee length skirts typically have. The stiff awning navy blue and white striped skirt can be found in almost every pattern and flatters your waist! This one is from Foreign Exchange, but Francesa’s has a large selection of bandage skirts as well. Finally, my shoes were a splurge from Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th, from BCBGMAXAZRIA. The wedge helps hold my balance and the sparkle ads a subtle touch since there is not much jewelry. Lastly, the complementing clutch is very affordable from Express and is the perfect size for a small wallet and phone.

I cannot wait to share the rest of my Fashionista tips and finds throughout the semester with you!
