STYLE GURU BIO: Maya Abraham

Hey there! My name is Maya Abraham and I’m currently a junior at Pennsylvania State University. I am majoring in communications and minoring in human development and family studies. I’m in the home stretch of my college journey and after graduation I hope to work my way up at landing my dream job at Essence as a creative director and writer.

Ever since I can remember I loved dressing up in my grandmother’s closet, but as I got older I began to love dressing other people as well. Giving my input, whether it was valued or not, and sooner, rather than later, I became my families very own fashion guru! As Ralph Lauren said, “Fashion is not necessarily about labels. It’s not about brands. Its about something that’s within you.”

I love the versatility of clothing. I would best describe my style as comfortable, yet functional. Most people think to be stylish or cute you most of the time have to sacrifice your ability to walk, stand or even sometimes breathe. On campus, you’ll most often find me in a T-shirt or hoodie with some ripped jeans and sneakers. But on occasion I like to switch it up with a nice pair of comfortable leggings, cardigan, nice shirt, riding boots and a scarf, because everyone that knows me knows I’m a scarf girl!

But that’s what I mean when I say that clothes are versatile; it makes you have the ability to look and feel how you want to feel depending on the day. Whether you’re most comfortable wearing sweats and UGGs or a pencil skirt and some heels. There isn’t only one way to define style and it’s part of the reason I love that I am now apart of the CollegeFashionista team; a forum where everyone’s style can be represented and showed off. I look forward to writing more posts! I hope you read them and don’t forget to hit that RAD button!
