STYLE GURU BIO: Mary Zelmanski

Hi there Fashionitas/os!

My name is Mary Zelmanski. I love all things fashion, food, music and coffee. I’m currently studying Broadcast Communications and Journalism at Schoolcraft College. I’m so very excited to join the CollegeFashionista team this semester!

I love to dance. I’ve been dancing on a competitive team since I was in the second grade. One of the reasons I love dance so much is because I’m able tell a story with the movement of my body. It introduced me to discipline and creativity, lessons I will forever be grateful for. Dance is one of my favorite mediums to express myself, along with fashion.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve always loved the way that clothes could make you feel. There is honestly nothing sweeter than wearing an outfit that can make you feel alive and confident, almost like you could run the world. One of my favorite aspects of fashion is that it is so easy to be yourself and express the way you feel every day with the clothes you wear. I’m known to wear clothes that showcase my mood. I can’t really describe my style; it ranges from flirty florals to gloomy grunge. Most of my inspiration is drawn from nature. I wear mostly earth tones, floral, etc. My color palette includes a lot of black and white.

With working, going to college, attending dance classes and everything in between, I have found it easier to dress simple. A main reason I wear earth tones is because they almost always match. No matter how much of a rush I’m in, I never have to worry that my outfit doesn’t match.

One of the essentials in my wardrobe is my pair of American Apparel high-waisted black jeans. I cannot stress enough how crucial black jeans are in my wardrobe. For this look, I paired my favorite jeans with the most adorable off-the-shoulder ruffle top with pinstripe detailing. For accessories I’m wearing a black floppy hat from Free People and Alex and Ani bangles, as well as a cuff bracelet from Etsy. And of course what’s summer without Birkenstocks?

I couldn’t be more excited to write for CollegeFashionista this summer. I have a passion for fashion and I can’t wait to share it with you!
