STYLE GURU BIO: Mary Kate Baehl

Hey, everyone, I’m Mary Kate Baehl, and I am thrilled to be back as a Style Guru intern for this semester.  I love fashion, but you already know that. After spending a semester in either business casual and professional clothes or in running clothes, I am so excited to go back to my favorite staple: leggings and sweaters. Not that I’m hanging up the running or business clothes for good; there is just going to be a lot more variety in my wardrobe now. Second semester is going to be an eclectic mix of long layers and bundling up for the chilly Maryland mountain weather to sunshiny and warm spring clothes that dominate the later half of the semester.

But to kick off this second semester, and the final one of my undergraduate career, I went back to the basics with a little bit of a twist. I paired my favorite high-waisted leggings with a cable knit turtleneck sweater. There is something about this look that is so comfortable, cozy and put together all at once. I also am a sucker for turtlenecks; call them dorky if you wish, but I think they are a classic. Turtlenecks are not only a functional piece but a fashionable one in pop culture appearing in everything from Twin Peaks to Harry Potter. This turtleneck sweater is all about the cable-knit texture which adds a little something extra to a simple outfit.

This year I traded the combat boots I have had since my senior year of high school for something with a little more edge. I think of these boots as pretty and punk with their ribbon laces and rose pattern. I scored these Dr. Martens on sale luckily, but I would say they are well-worth a splurge.  They are comfortable, durable and a good way to add a twist to any outfit.

So Fashionistas and Fashionistos, as we head into second semester grab that second cup of coffee and read about fashion and my final undergrad semester.
