STYLE GURU BIO: Marlee Montgomery

Nashville’s style extends beyond cowboy boots and incorporates fashion trends from all over the globe. From vintage to streetwear, the streets are flooded with young Fashionistas.  I was born and raised in the mountains of Tennessee, but I always dreamed of moving to a big city and becoming the next Carrie Bradshaw. I decided to move to Nashville and study Mass Communications with an emphasis in Design Communications at Belmont University, and over the past few years I have fallen head over heels for the city and the artists that it is home to.  This is my first semester interning as a Style Guru, and I couldn’t be more excited to start documenting the style surrounding me.

This outfit represents my daily style; mixing grunge with feminine pieces is currently what I am usually sporting.  My closet is home to far too many black articles of clothing, and recently I have been challenging myself to incorporate more color into my wardrobe this summer.  This is why I chose to wear one of my most comfortable tank tops made by a great friend of mine (@yup_threadshed), a totally DIY T-shirt brand.  The shirt reads “Pretty Hurts,” which is a lyric from one of my favorite artists, Beyonce.  Beyonce is a self-proclaimed feminist and her music strives to inspire young women. This a movement that I am more than willing to support and wear proudly.

DIY clothing and band merchandise are my favorite items of clothing to purchase, because I love buying clothing from local brands and bands while supporting my community. The kimono I purchased at a local flea market and the jeans were purchased at a local boutique in my hometown Knoxville.  However there is good news: The sales team at the lovely boutique informed me that Topshop is soon adding the brand to their inventory, so be on the lookout for these fantastic, frayed favorites of mine.   Finally I purchased  my boots from GUESS, and they have been practically glued to my feet ever since.  Not only do they work with almost every outfit in my closet, but they are also comfortable and were affordable.  Every girl should own a pair of comfortable black heeled booties. They will change your life.

This summer is going to be full of daytime adventures, sweaty concert venues and a lot of fashion.  So stay tuned, because in July I will be studying abroad in Germany and this Style Guru is about to take over the streets of Berlin!
