STYLE GURU BIO: Marisa Kirwan

Hello friends and other Fashionistas/os! My name is Marisa Kirwan and I’m originally from Reading, Pennsylvania. A small town about an hour outside of Philadelphia. My town may not have a ton to offer but it is known for producing two very important things: Railroads and Taylor Swift. Like Taylor, I traded my small suburban life in Reading for the hustle and bustle of a big city where anything is possible. Here in the City of Brotherly Love, I am surrounded by art, history, culture, and cheesesteaks (yum!). I’m currently a sophomore at St. Joseph’s University where I am majoring in Communications and minoring in Marketing.

Since I was a little girl I have had an eye for fashion. I would spend hours dressing up my dolls and designing outfits for them out of any materials I could get my hands on. In middle school, I was always “that girlie girl” at birthday parties or sleepovers that many would consider to be overdressed. A few times I was made fun of for it because I had a different style than the other girls did. Something I realized (even at age 11) was that it doesn’t matter what people say about you, all that matters is what you think of yourself. I think I rocked my Limited Too jean skirt and big sequin tote, and that’s all that matters!

Enough about me, let’s talk fashion! One of my favorite pastimes is following the latest trends and adding my own personal touch to make them unique to my style. I love dressing up some classic pieces with some of the new trends for the season. As featured above, I took my favorite classic plain white T-shirt from Urban Outfitters and paired it with some fun embellished jeans from GUESS and some neutral heels. What’s great about this shirt is that I can dress it down with cute shorts and sandals for class or throw on some strappy heels and jeans and go out for a night in the city. I also incorporated one of my new favorite trend, hair rings! You can find this exact set at Free People to spice up a simple braid.

I am so excited to show everyone some of the amazing Fashionistas/os on my campus. Even though my school may not have a fashion program, there are many men and women who make my campus their runway. So SJU, let’s show everyone some fashion!
