STYLE GURU BIO: Maria Dellera

Summer is my favorite season of the year because it embodies freedom. As much as I love my cozy winter sweaters, nothing beats being in an airy crop top and cute shorts to show off the body that I have been working to get beach-ready all winter long. The start of the summer, however, is the perfect time for students to experiment with transitional pieces while the warmth of the summer sun tries to heat up cool spring breezes. My favorite transitional look works great for days where the sun is hot, but the breeze is cool.

In my look pictured here, I wore a brightly colored T-shirt from T.J. Maxx. This casual shirt is perfect for summer because you can dress it up or dress it down and it’s soft fabric allows you to stay comfortable all day. The bright red color grabs the attention of the eye and compliments the bohemian feel of the skirt because of its natural auburn color, reminiscent of one of my favorite summer sights: the brilliant colors of the setting sun.

I also wore a boho print maxi skirt that has an uneven hem from Hollister Co.. Bohemian fashion is iconic during summertime and this skirt is one of my favorite boho pieces. The neutral colors in the skirt allow it to pair nicely with almost any top and the uneven hem looks stunning when the breeze catches it. The length of the skirt is perfect for cool summer nights, permitting comfort from sun up to sun down.

To tie my look together, I wore bohemian inspired jewelry and black ankle boots from American Eagle Outfitters. The rings I chose to wear have a bohemian feel to them and I found that the engraved designs paired well with the pattern of the maxi skirt. The cross necklace pictured in my outfit is green Connemara marble from Ireland which compliments the red in my shirt. Finally, I wore black ankle boots because the pointed toes elongated my figure and mirrored the angle of my skirt’s hem. This is the perfect transitional spring to summer outfit. This boho-chic look works for any summer event, whether you’re lounging in the park with friends, going on an ice-cream date or attending an outdoor concert. To dress this look up, switch the ankle boots with a chic pair of strappy heels and a leather clutch and you’re ready for a night on the town.
