STYLE GURU BIO: Margaux Forster

Bonjour Fashionistas/os! My name is Margaux (pronounced Margo) Marine Forster. I am a junior at Michigan State University, majoring in Advertising with a specialization in Design and a minor in French. I am very excited to get to combine my interests in photography, fashion and social media as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru intern this semester.

Photography is my life’s passion. I started up the hobby my freshman year of high school when I came across my father’s 35 mm film camera. We got the old gadget cleaned up and soon enough I was going through multiple rolls of film each week. Being able to take photos became a way for me to share part of my life with my mother’s side of the family. My mother was born in France and the majority of her family still resides in France. I speak fluent French, one of my favorite qualities of mine. I was blessed enough to be able to visit my grandparents every summer. Their little beach town and the residents in it became some of my best subjects. This is where much of my street daily life photography came from.

I would say that my interest in fashion was late blooming. I was definitely a tomboy growing up, donning boy’s cargo shorts, sneakers and a chin length bob. After many years of questionable fashion choices, my mother and aunt opened a French-inspired clothing boutique in our hometown, and I started to play with clothes and develop my own style.

In college, I was able to combine my passions for photography and fashion as the photographer for VIM Magazine, Michigan State University’s student-run fashion magazine. I got to work with a variety of people with many different amazing styles. I came to love how individuals could express themselves through their style choices.

My style is first and foremost comfortable. I cannot stand ill-fitting clothes that I have to adjust all day long. I love leggings, great jeans, soft fabrics and funky accessories. I have a pretty wide variety of styles in my closet ranging from grunge to hippie to athletic to girly, accumulated from Urban Outfitters, H&M, Forever 21 and my local thrift stores. My newest favorite accessory are my black Dr. Martens boots. They keep my toes warm and are super easy to wear either with leggings and a comfortable sweater or a dress and brightly colored tights. As much as I love wearing black, I promise I’ll try to wear more color in the new year. Keep an eye out for my weekly articles!
