STYLE GURU BIO: Malika Virk

Hello Fashionistos/as! I am so excited to be returning as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this summer. I am a rising sophomore at Indiana University and I plan on majoring in Marketing and Management with a minor in Apparel Merchandising. This summer I am working in retail, as well as taking summer classes. Summer is my favorite fashion season, mainly because I’m obsessed with dresses, sunglasses and swimsuits. Some other fun facts about myself—Zuhair Murad is my favorite designer, Coco Chanel is why I love fashion and Beyoncé is my idol.

Fashion is my creative outlet. To me, there is nothing more exciting than piecing together the perfect outfit. I am currently working in retail and I love helping people shop for a specific occasion. I treat each customer’s needs as my own fashionable puzzle. I love keeping up with new trends and I spend more time than I care to admit on Style.com. For me personally, fashion is a direct representation of my personality. Whether I’m bumming in sweats or rocking a dress, my outfits often directly correlate with my mood. I am a firm believer in the saying “dress for success.” This summer I hope to become more daring with my fashion choices. I’m hoping to add more accessories to my wardrobe and trying new trends. My next goal on my fashion checklist is mixing prints, followed by mastering the perfect monochrome ensemble. Stay tuned for more.

Although summer is finally here, Indiana’s weather is not willing to comply. The past couple of days have been dreary and rainy, but that is no excuse for lazy outfits. I chose to make these rainy days better with a fun, summery outfit. I paired a fitted, black skirt with a burgundy, cropped sweater. I added one of my favorite pairs of shoes, embellished burgundy heels. I can’t wait to see what fashionable items I’ll encounter this summer. Like Coco Chanel said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”
