STYLE GURU BIO: Madison French

Hello my beautiful, little Fashionista fam! My name is Madison French, and I am a junior studying public relations at the University of Georgia. This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista, and I could not be more excited!

Putting together dynamic outfits has been an interest of mine since I was a little girl. My color blind dad would have me help him pick out his suits and accessories for his business trips. He told me that it was important for him to dress well because it would help him win his cases. I would sit on my parents’ bed and spread out all of his pocket squares and ties so that I made sure I chose the perfect combination. I wanted him to be so well dressed that he made the other lawyers scared. In retrospect, I do not believe that I really pulled together outfits that intimidated opposing counsels or influenced decisions made by juries or judges, however, I do think that my dad felt confident in the outfits that I gave him, and that made a difference.

I love fashion because I think it can bring out so many memories and hidden qualities in people. When I wear my studded jean jacket, I feel like nobody can mess with me, and that I am a little powerhouse of potential. In the cooler months when I break out my black booties, I always think of running back and forth across Abbey Road so my dad could get the perfect picture of me and my cousins. Or when I add my Mickey Mouse macaron pin to my shirt collar, I know I am going to be in a good mood and will probably annoy my roommate by singing Disney songs all day.

I do not think there is a term to encompass my style, but I think the sentiments expressed in the three examples I have given define my style. My style is who I am. It is my history. It is where I am going and what I am doing. As I find out who I am as I get older, maybe I will find a term to dictate my style. Until then, my style is Madison French, and I am perfectly satisfied with that definition.

In these photos I am wearing one of my go-to outfits for classes. I love shirts with collars and adding some of my pins to the corners is one of my favorite ways to add a bit of personality to  any outfit. I am wearing the aforementioned Mickey macaron pin and my Peggy Olson pin from Weirdo Weapons. In the fall I will wear jeans and booties instead of shorts and sandals, and I will most likely throw on a sweater as well.
