STYLE GURU BIO : Loodjie Louisca

Hello, my name is Loodjie Louisca and I’m currently a student at Long island University Brooklyn. I’m originally from Haiti. I grew up in a colorful neighborhood. Down the block was always bright; the houses stood like a standing rainbow. I’ve always been around colors, but I was often hesitant on trying them because I thought bright colors wouldn’t go well with my dark skin. Well, that was part of it.

I’ve always loved clothes, food and languages. If I’m not in school, at work or on a Kdrama (Korean TV series) marathon, I’m out visiting new neighborhoods in search of my next poetry inspiration. When I discovered my love for fashion, I was still in the transition of my parents buying me clothes and I didn’t have a choice but to wear whatever they bought me. Which were always one to two sizes bigger followed by the “you’ll grow into them” statement. I know you’ve been there too.

When I moved to New York a couple of years ago, I was much more interested in getting good grades in school. My basic outfits for school were T-shirts, pants and shoes. I was always a loner and a tomboy and I still have a little bit left in me. At the time, my school was close to the Lincoln Center and my eyes seemed to always catch other’s outfits. At that time I decided to go natural. I cut all my hair and from it grew such a confidence that I had no other choice but to unleash. It got to me like a super power, I was able to spot anyone with cool style around me and record the matching in my head.

I started following YouTube channels. Lucky me, at that time Facebook came along and I started having access to Fashionistas all over the world. I personally really like Karla’s Closet. Her style is super laid back, effortless, sexy, yet feminine and sophisticated.

My style changes all the time. I’m more of a tomboy than a girly girl. I take a little bit of everyones’ style that I love and mixed them in my own way. I’ve always wanted to be a fashion blogger, but as a college student I feel like money plays a big role in staying fashionable and most of the well-known bloggers come from money. Well, we’ve got to start somewhere! I’m really excited to be part of CollegeFashionista, I’ve seen so many incredible past interns and being part of this is really amazing.

I love an elegant dress that show a little skin here and there. The weather has been nice lately in New York (cheers!). After a long winter I couldn’t wait to wear all my floral prints. I have a whole bunch of them. Since today is a beautiful day, I decided to wear floral swimwear as a top. I paired it with these lovely high-waisted pants, a ring, a cross-body bag that I got from a thrift shop and a pair of Yelana in Persim Natural heels.
