STYLE GURU BIO: Liz Kostelny

Hello style-savvy people!! My name is Liz, and I am freshman at the University of Iowa pursuing a degree in journalism. The goal is to work in fashion/lifestyle PR, and I must say I’m pretty determined. My love of fashion began at a very young age. As a baby I never left the house without a bow in my blonde curly hair, a ruffled dress and polished Mary Jane’s. Nineteen years later, I never leave the house without my mirrored gold sunglasses, Marc Jacobs bangles and either oxfords or knee-high leather boots. Instead of believing in the line “You’re never fully dressed without a smile…” I believe you’re never fully dressed without sunglasses and leather boots. It’s an instant outfit in itself and announces to the world that you are a force to be reckoned with. Trust me.

I guess you can say my style has been influenced by the ever-so-creative minds such as Tom Ford for his architectural silhouettes, Zac Posen for his detail to texture and color, Ralph Lauren for his equestrian chic uniform, Rick Owens for revealing his inner darkness (please reference his spring/summer 2016 show) and Chanel’s simplicity behind two golden C’s that drive women crazy. My biggest influences though are Diana Vreeland (Queen R.I.P.), my celebrity obsessions (Jennifer Lawrence, Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Morgan Stewart) my fashionable friends and my parents. None of this would have been possible without my parents. They are the sole reason I have respect and adoration for those that aren’t afraid to express their ideas, styles and the beauty that comes within things that most take for granted. I hope over the course of the semester I can exhibit the dignity that comes from being true to one’s style as well as pay homage to the beautiful minds of the designers of each garment. Cheers to a semester of fashionable finds and thanks to the brave souls that I will feature on my blog!
