STYLE GURU BIO: Lindsey Jacoby

Hello everyone! My name is Lindsey Jacoby and I am a senior at the University of Kentucky. I am majoring in merchandising, apparel and textiles and minoring in business administration. I am from Crystal Lake, Illinois, which is a small suburb north of Chicago. This is my first semester as a Style Guru and I cannot wait to share what I have in store for all of you!

I am happy to say I have a lot of experience with many different brands and products, so for the most part I know what I am talking about. I am an avid Jaclyn Hill and Sincerely Jules follower; I owe a lot of my makeup products and clothes inspiration to these makeup and fashion gurus. I have been working in retail since I was a teenager and have had the opportunity to merchandise and attend major fashion events like New York Fashion Week. I just returned from a semester abroad in Rome, Italy where I traveled all over Europe. Studying abroad only helped broadened my horizons into the world of fashion.

That being said, I cannot say that since I was little I was truly a successful Fashionista. I wore the same Hollister Co. logo tops and Abercrombie & Fitch polos that everyone in middle school wore and you better believe I owned a Juicy Couture velour tracksuit. It wasn’t until college that I became more adventurous with my style. I realized that not everyone is going to like what I wear but fashion should be an expression of yourself, not those around you.

I get my inspiration from my friends, blogs, Pinterest, magazines and travel. I basically live to shop whether it is online or in store. My style does not fit into one specific category. I love a little bit of everything! One will mostly catch me sporting all black most of the time, but I’ll a dark or bright lipstick. In the summer my bohemian style comes out while in the winter it is more like New York street style. My ride or die stores are simplistic and affordable. My whole closet consists of Free People, Urban Outfitters, Topshop and Zara. This excludes jewelry and shoes because I have accessories absolutely from everywhere! I love necklaces and rings with stones like turquoise, amber and moonstone.

I wanted my look above to be seasonally appropriate. Chicago is currently 30 degrees, so warmth was definitely a factor in the look. I also wanted to rock a dark lip because like most Fashionistas I am obsessed with the brown matte lipstick trend going on. To achieve the look above, I wore a cowl-neck sweater, black skinny jeans, chunky booties, a black fold-over clutch, rings with funky stones and a brown matte liquid lipstick to close out the look.
