STYLE GURU BIO: Liad Stearns

January 7th, 2016 at 2:00am

Hi Fashionistas/os. My name is Liad Stearns and I am a sophomore studying Neuroscience and public health at Tulane University. While I am geared toward a science infused future, I have always had an insatiable desire to stay in tune with the fashion world and being a Style Guru has allowed me to do just that. As I enter my second semester writing for CollegeFashionista, I look forward to discovering what Fashionistas on campus have in store for both the upcoming winter and spring seasons.

Fashion can be categorized as a hobby, popular trend or most simply a manner of doing something. Regardless of where it falls, the greatest part of fashion is the hunt, whether it’s for a piece to best transform the latest runway trend or through my dad’s closet for a perfectly worn-in Chambray shirt. This season I have found myself constantly seeking an XL sweater that can be worn as a dress or anything made as a shaggy knit or jacket. While these pieces come across as well thought out and put together, they can be assembled into an outfit in a matter of minutes and provide day-long contentment.

Throughout 2015 my style has evolved to fit a more comfortable lifestyle. However, my idea of comfort comes with layering oversized, cozy clothes and the New Orleans heat makes it difficult to accomplish just that. Over the past year, I have learned to work with thin dresses and lightweight jackets in order to achieve a comfortable outfit and layered design. In this look, I chose a turtleneck styled shift dress that I paired with a medium-weight embroidered jacket and hand ripped tights. Recently I have been incorporating ripped tights into much of my daily routine because when worn with a structured jacket or loose dress, they force an outfit to straddle the line of classy and grunge. Additionally, they give me a sense of cozy comfort without the added warmth of thicker, lined tights.

This upcoming semester holds a new season of runway trends along with some of my own personal experimenting in order to keep my closet exciting. I can’t wait to share what the fashion world has in store for us!
