STYLE GURU BIO: Lamia Chowdhury

Hello Fashionistas! Let me start off by introducing myself. My name is Lamia and I am currently a student at the University of Florida studying Communications. I am thrilled to join the College Fashionista team and to share this passion of mine with all of you.

What I love most about fashion is that it has no boundaries. You can make it out to be whatever you desire because it is solely an expression of you. I strongly believe that your style reflects the way you choose to present yourself and goes much further than just articles of clothing.

Ever since a young age, I’ve held a fascination for fashion. I’m reminded of the days I aimed to be a trend-setter in elementary school by either recreating outfits from my Barbie Fashion Designer game or simply jumbling through my older sister’s closet to see what exceptional outfit I could  assemble for the day.

As far as my personal style today, it changes with the seasons. I don’t like to label myself with a specific “style” because I’m open to just about everything. One day I may channel my inner Kardashian with a pair of stilettos, while another day I could channel my inner Jenner by sporting some combats and an oversized T-shirt.

Another thing you’ll come to learn is that the color black is my best friend. Those who know me well could tell you that it’s quite a strenuous task to steer me away from the alluring color—along with any other neutrals. However, I will say I’m open to venture out of my comfort zone this summer and try some color for a change. As Alexander McQueen once said, “Fashion should be a form of escapism, and not a form of imprisonment.”

Confidence is the key in embracing the art of fashion and finding what you are most comfortable in. That being said, I’m so excited to see what this summer has in store for me as a Style Guru!
