STYLE GURU BIO: Kiara Manning

My name is Kiara Manning and I am a second year print journalism major at the University of Mississippi. This is my first year working with CollegeFashionista and I could not be more ecstatic. Fashion is art, history and culture all rolled into one and that is what makes it so special. Working with this website will open so many doors for me because it will allow me to focus on the things I love, which are fashion and writing.

I am passionate, devoted and believe that hard work is the key to success. I love to express creativity in all things and being the best that I can be. I am an aspiring journalist, writer, author and stylist. I currently work at the Daily Mississippian, which is the only student run daily newspaper in the state. Working at a newspaper gives me great hands on experience and it has helped me learn so much about my writing.

I am also a part of the UM Fashion Society where I am apart if the vendors team, which consists of me contacting clothing stores to sponsor and donate clothes to our fashion shows, dressing and styling the models and making sure things go smoothly during our shows.

I would definitely describe my style as trendy and chic. I am obsessed with high fashion and often look to runway shows and certain celebrities, such as Gigi Hadid and Rihanna for inspiration and sort of make it my own. I constantly mix higher end clothing with lower end clothing because I feel that you can find fashionable things anywhere no matter the price. I like to wear a lot of black clothing because it’s something very regal and edgy about it, but I also love wearing bright colors and color blocking my outfits. I feel that it is very important to mix up your style so I look to the ’80s and the ’90s and other eras to see what trend I can bring back or start. I like to consider myself as the Cher Horowitz or Blair Waldorf of my generation—their style literally makes me die.

I have always been interested in fashion like every aspect of the industry. I have had daydreams about being pictured with Naomi Campbell or Vera Wang and being completely calm on the outside, but totally fan-girling on the inside.

In the next couple of years I hope to get more into fashion journalism and into the fashion industry period. I hope to also become a New York Times bestselling author in the future. I hope to push myself in all aspects of my career.

When I am not writing or styling outfits I am busy watching Netflix and living life with my amazing friends. I enjoy reading, going to restaurants and traveling.

I am so excited to be apart of the CollegeFashionista family and I cannot wait to share all my articles with you!
