STYLE GURU BIO: Karla Dimatulac

Hello everyone! My name is Karla Dimatulac. As a child, I grew up in the Philippines, then moved to the United States at age 10; New Jersey has been my home ever since. I just finished my freshman year at Rutgers University, hoping to double major in Political Science/Cultural Anthropology and a minor in International Studies. In my spare time, you’ll find me reading the day away at Barnes & Noble, drowning in raspberry macchiatos. Robert Frost, E.E. Cummings and F. Scott Fitzgerald are a few of my favorite people ever. I casually fangirl over their works on occasion.

From earthy tones to neon to all-black to whatever it is now, it’s safe to say my sense of fashion evolved throughout the years. My extracurriculars frequently require me to dress professionally, so business attire dominates most of my wardrobe. The corporate influence is definitely apparent in my current style, as displayed by the blazer vest and pleated shorts. Above all, I never leave home without a hair accessory, be it a large sun hat or even just a thin headband.

My mom always said that I walk out the door every day looking like I’m about to go to a party, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. I always believed that the way I dress can affect my outlook on life. Failed an exam? Missed the bus? Got food poisoning? When all else fails, my trusty ankle boots do not and will not let me down.

Outside all things fashion, I am a marketing mentor for a FIRST Robotics team, an intern for CollegeTourist and Vice President of the Institute for the Domestic and International Affairs (IDIA) Rutgers chapter, an organization that hosts high school Model United Nations conferences around the tri-state area. In the future, I aspire to be working in diplomacy.

I am ecstatic to start my first summer at CollegeFashionista; stay tuned to see all my future articles!
