STYLE GURU BIO: Kara Kime

Aloha everyone! I’m Kara Kime and I’m a fashion design student at Kent State University, but today I’m writing to you from sunny Kauai, Hawaii. Although originally I wanted to study fashion merchandising, I switched to fashion design when I realized how much I enjoyed the hands on experience design allowed me to have.  I like to look at things and imagine how they can be used differently.  Design school has given me the opportunity to explore this even more.

I have a big passion for traveling and exploring.  I was born in Toledo, Ohio, but have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to travel around the country and over seas.  Traveling has affected my style in a positive way by allowing me to pick different items to add into my wardrobe, to receiving inspiration worldwide for my everyday outfits and influencing my designs.

One word to describe my style would have to be eclectic. Some days I’m feeling bohemian and other I’m feeling rocker chic; sometimes both!  I like to combine various styles into one look.  I’m a firm believer that no one should restrict themselves to a certain style or look. When I shop, I prefer more unusual stores when I shop such as Goodwill or small boutiques that have more unique styles to offer.  One of my favorite things to do is upcycle clothes or to take old clothes and make them new.

To get my Hawaii ready look you can find a similar embroidered dress with tassels, go-to two straps sandals and a medallion style necklace. Pair all of these with some cool bracelets you’ve collected throughout your travels and you’re ready to go!
