Hey, Fashionistas! My name is Jasmyn Peterson and I’m studying communications and fashion studies at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me in fashion and I’m so excited to get started being a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista.

Growing up, I went to school where I had to wear a uniform and that was always the worst. So when I was trying to find unique twists to spice up my kilt, I fell in love with fashion. What started with funky headbands and wild socks, turned into finding cool and fun complete outfits, not just interesting accessories. I started going to thrift shops and vintage shops to find unique little pieces that were one of a kind. When the time came that I could wear whatever I wanted to school, I had some really awesome wardrobe staples. I wanted to be able to express myself through my clothes. I’m the youngest of three girls and hand-me-downs were the way of life until I got old enough to decide what I liked and what I thought was cool. Shopping became a hobby; even if I wasn’t buying anything I was getting to think ahead about what things I thought were cool and what types of stylish things I wanted to start trying. Being adventurous is my favorite part about fashion, you can try almost anything once!

My personal style is pretty simple. I find a lot of my inspiration on Tumblr, and now living in New York City, everyday I’m seeing something new I want to try. I wear a lot of black, navy and grey to keep the palette simple and try to find really cool accessories and pieces to make them more vibrant. I like to look simple, chic and sophisticated, but never boring. I love a bright bag or a funky pair of sunglasses that take an outfit over the top. Nothing feels greater than finding that piece that’s been missing from your wardrobe that finally brings that dream outfit together. I’m also very inspired by menswear; I love a great tailored jacket or a pair of oxfords or loafers. Menswear-inspired items in a wardrobe are really fun to mix with something that’s really flirty or feminine, it gives you a little edge and I love to have that in an outfit.

This is going to be an awesome semester and I can’t wait to show you guys what I’m seeing and what’s trendy. Check in monthly to see what I’ve been up to!
