STYLE GURU BIO: Janelle Winchester

Hey there, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Janelle Winchester, and I’m delighted to be a part of the Guru Gang this spring semester. I’m originally from small-town Pennsylvania, and have moved closer to Harrisburg to study at Dickinson College. At Dickinson, I am a freshman with plans to pursue international business and political science. At first glance, the fashion industry may appear unrelated, but business and marketing are essential for companies trying to make a name for themselves.

In a way, style allows you to establish your own unique “brand.” Having a statement look serves as an icebreaker, which is vital to networking. Whether you are trying to land a dream job or simply make new friends, fashion can act as a powerful connector.

When choosing an outfit for this post, I wanted to incorporate vintage vibes while retaining elements of my day-to-day looks. I’m a huge fan of anything off-the-shoulder, and this emerald sweater is no exception. I decided to showcase the vibrant color, so I paired the sweater with black leggings. To tie together my accessories, I chose to match the material in floppy hat and boots. The suede effortlessly adds softness and elegance; it’s not hard to see why the trend is so huge! These boots are also surprisingly comfy and easy to walk in, making them perfect for running to class. In order to create some contrast, I added a brown leather belt from Fossil. The delicate teardrop earrings add another touch of green in a lighter shade, bringing the look full circle.

I am constantly inspired by the incredible fashion around campus, and I can’t wait to share the looks I spot with the CollegeFashionista community.
