STYLE GURU BIO: Holly Conner

June 1st, 2016 at 2:00am

Hello!

My name is Holly Conner and besides being obsessed with all things fashion and design, I am also an avid artist. I enjoy throwing clay into ceramics, printmaking, painting and photography, and plan to explore many other mediums as well. To me, style is an art in itself, so I am excited to express my own style and the unique style of others as a Style Guru for summer 2016! I am eager to not only hone my style skills this summer, but also explore fashion photography through this internship as well.

Some of my favorite activities include perusing Pinterest all too often, playing with kittens, devouring massive amounts of chocolate, listening to upbeat music on a warm summer day, taking artsy photos with friends and being distinctly and confidently myself. I am optimistic at heart and enjoy thoughtful conversation with open-minded people, laying next to and listening to the sounds of the ocean and being completely ridiculous and goofy with those who I love most.

My sense of style would be categorized as primarily bohemian and feminine and my go-to pieces include romantic statements such as goddess-like flower crowns, a good pair of lace-up heels and simple sundresses. I am inspired by the natural world around me, which is probably why I have a special spot in my heart for floral prints and organic designs.

I grew up in a small town near the heart of Michigan and am currently attending Central Michigan University, where I am studying fashion design, fashion merchandising, and art. My hope is to design elegant dresses, preferably wedding apparel, while soaking up the sun somewhere on the West Coast. For now though, in cool Michigan, I am wearing a long sleeve flare dress with knee-high socks and black booties, accessorized with a black cord necklace and a wool fedora. This look, though not particularly bright, is well suited for the cloudy May days we have been having here in Michigan. The pieces in this ensemble are perfect for playing up or for dressing down, which is what, in my opinion, makes this outfit so dynamic and exciting.
