STYLE GURU BIO: Hannah McKim Hurley

Greetings, Fashionistas/os! My name is Hannah Hurley and this is my first semester as a Style Guru with the CollegeFashionista team. I am a freshman at the University of South Florida, currently completing my general studies.

Creativity is a huge aspect of my life. I tend to gravitate towards activities and people that stimulate me, encouraging me to think differently. Seeing how others execute their style and present themselves can be influential but also intimidating at times. CollegeFashionista breaks down the barrier and allows individuals to freely admire the style of others. The world becomes just a bit smaller and we feel as if we can relate to someone who may be thousands of miles away. To have the opportunity to contribute to that is incredibly moving.

Something that I find to be massively important in fashion is inspiration. I find inspiration in many places: a simple smile from a passerby, a hike on a peaceful trail, the stars in the night sky and most importantly, the knowledge and wisdom shared by others. In this day and age, this is where we can absolutely thrive. We have a vast wealth of knowledge available within seconds. Social media has given us the opportunity to connect, while blogs and websites allow people to share their experience and knowledge. Being a part of the CollegeFashionista team does just that. We see personal styles from all around the world. Through this, we can become inspired.

Tampa is a city which is known and recognized for its diversity. It’s an eccentric city that will continue to surprise you, whether it be through music, food, culture or the outdoors. Something that is uniquely intimate about big cities is discovery. Many people have experienced the utterly fulfilling moment of stumbling upon a hidden gem within all the hustle and bustle. It is a special experience. Tampa has given me the opportunity to become familiar with this warming feeling. Through hours and hours of research, I have discovered quaint cafes, local parks and hotspots for music. In the process of this discovery, I have simultaneously stumbled upon dozens of interesting individuals with truly rad style.

Style is about originality and expression. While we may look to others for inspiration, we must look to ourselves to find what truly moves us. I believe that each individual should be encouraged to be themselves in how they dress, for this is what constitutes style. Happiness is an essential part of this. Present yourself in a manner which exemplifies your class and personal taste, all the while exuding happiness.

I am ecstatic for my first semester as a part of the CollegeFashionista team. This platform allows for the expression, appreciation and inspiration of creativity. I plan to capture the beauty and essence of style on my campus, while keeping an emphasis on the importance of individualism. Stay tuned for my posts on Fridays this semester, as I explore my campus in search of fabulous street style.
