STYLE GURU BIO: Hannah Gilmartin

Hello world! My name is Hannah Gilmartin and I am beyond excited to be joining the CollegeFashionista team this semester! I will be finishing my last semester as a Fashion Merchandising major at the University of South Carolina this spring. Most people don’t want to graduate, but I can’t wait to take on the world and do great things in retail!

I studied fashion design in Italy last year and continue to sew and sketch. I have always had a love for fashion, but creating my own looks from the ground up gave me a whole new appreciation for design.

I am a diehard coffee lover and whenever I find a good book I have a really hard time putting it down. I am not very into makeup, but I always like sporting a strong statement lipstick. It’s never long before I get bored with my current hair. I have had something different done to it every time I’ve gone to my hairdresser since I was 12 years old! A person’s hair is an extension of their style and individuality.

Anyone who knows me will tell you it is very rare to see me dressed down. I take my love of fashion very seriously. If you’re passionate about something, why approach it half-heartedly?

I don’t usually wear a lot of color. Black is a great go-to and always matches everything. I especially have a weakness for leather and fur! I haven’t always been like this, though. My style has changed many times throughout my life. I don’t believe I truly discovered my personal style until I started studying fashion merchandising.

I don’t go anywhere without my black booties or a leather jacket. Leather shorts are always a good item to have in your wardrobe because you can wear them during the summertime with a tank top or during the wintertime with tights! Also, a statement piece like a fur vest is something easy you can throw on that will completely upgrade your entire look.

I can’t wait to share more of my style with you as well as the individual styles of my fellow classmates! Goodbye for now and have a lovely day.
