Hello there! My name is Gabbie Salman and I am a senior at the University of Central Florida where I am majoring in Sociology and minoring in Mass Communication. I’m returning for my second semester as a Style Guru and my final semester in college. What a crazy ride it has been, full of beautiful, bittersweet memories that I will forever hold near to my heart. I’m so glad CollegeFashionista is a part of it all.
I’ve always felt a bit like a fish out of water with wanting to have my own style blog and big dreams of living in New York City as a small town girl from Florida. It was one of those things that you thought no one around you understood no matter how much you tried to explain the yearn for a life that was so much bigger. But then, CollegeFashionista appeared and changed my life for the better. All of a sudden, I was surrounded by hundreds of college girls just like myself who shared all the same interests and aspirations. Then I got all warm and fuzzy inside, well, because I’m a sap.
My style has grown tremendously over the past few months, for which I have my fellow Fashionistas to thank. I believe fashion can be an emotional tool to express yourself and really show who you are. It is inspiring to see what other create with their style. I spent my days thinking that maybe I cared too much about what I wore, but I soon came to realize that everyone expresses themselves differently; that’s the beauty of it all. I’m still my boho self with maybe a bit more chic and a lot more black. Probably too much black, but hey, Karl does it.
The opportunities that 2015 has in store are so close I can almost taste them. I am eternally grateful for all the doors being a Style Guru has opened for me. After graduation, I’m moving to New York City to make my dreams a reality. I read a quote once that now has become a part of me. It goes, “New York’s charm is you’re surrounded by things you can’t have. New York’s charm is making you believe that you can have them.”
I’m looking forward to showing you how stylish my Knights are as they help me grow as a writer, photographer and Style Guru for CollegeFashionista! Bring on the new year; I can’t wait a second longer.
