STYLE GURU BIO: Erica Carter

Hey, everybody! My name is Erica Carter. I am a magazine journalism major at Kent State University, from Queens, New York. This is my second semester with CollegeFashionista and I couldn’t be more happy about it. Growing up in this city has had a major influence on my love for fashion. I see it as a way to express yourself and be the best version of you tha you can be. My end career goal is to have my own fashion magazine. The magazine industry is super competitive and I know it will take a lot of hard work and determination to get there. There’s absolutely no other industry I could picture myself in. Growing up we were always told to search for secure jobs, such as engineers, cops, lawyers, doctors—you know, things that the world could not live without. But none of those things ever interested me, I always dreamed of something bigger. Fashion was that something bigger.

Writing has always been a big passion of mine too. It’s another great way to express yourself. Growing up I wasn’t the most liked kid in school, I didn’t have that many friends. Writing helped me with that. It made me feel not so lonely and I always felt better about myself after I wrote. Combine my love for writing and my love for fashion and you have the reason why I’m currently studying magazine journalism and fashion media at Kent State. Hopefully, once I get my degree, I can become a fashion editor. But, we all know that the fashion industry isn’t solely based on what you know, but who you know. Being a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista just adds on to my who I know list. I’ve made so many connections with other people trying to venture into this industry and also others interested in different things.

My personal style is all over the place. I like a little bit of everything and I’m never afraid to try wearing something different. I would say I’m a little sketchy about wearing the color yellow. Just not my thing. For my look in this picture, I have a really semi-casual look that’s good for wanting to be comfy and professional at the same time. Starting off with a white button-down, every Fashionista/o’s must have, to a pair of high-waisted jeans. I added my black purse from JustFab, formally known as JustFabolous, to give the look a little flare. I was running around the city this day so I had to throw on my Nike Roshe Runs. Ultimately, I topped the outfit off with my favorite floppy hat.
