STYLE GURU BIO: Emily Beene

Hola! Bonjour! Hello! My name is Emily Beene and I am so excited to be a Style Guru from the University of Mississippi this summer. I am currently a senior Integrated Marketing Communications major. I take my style inspiration from street style, mostly in London and Paris, and focus on taking pieces that are comfortable but stylish into an outfit that can conquer any occasion. Oh, and I also have a slightly unhealthy love for the color black.

Fashion, to me, has always been something that surrounds me but was never a truly tangible object. I always have had a quirky sense of style but until I started working at a clothing boutique, I did not consider myself a “fashion expert.” Working there let me see that fashion is not only luxurious, over the top haute couture pieces only found on runways and the occasional Kardashian sister, but it can be found in any place. Insert Bill Cunningham New York, a documentary I stumbled across one night after curling up in bed with a glass of wine after a long day. The movie follows a New York Times photographer who focuses on street style in New York City. This kickstarted my obsession with street style and a love affair with all things fashionable, yet practical, quirky and unique.

This outfit is my attempt to make my own street style and is one of my go-to outfits because it is all about effortless style and comfort. It includes a black striped top, a great pair of skinny jeans, black Steve Madden combat boots, my Half United necklace that I wear almost everyday and last but not least, my Ray-Ban aviators.

Every day I am inspired by different looks and styles. Here’s to making this summer one of nonstop style and constant different looks. Until next week!
