STYLE GURU BIO: Danielle Szatkowski

Hello! My name is Danielle Szatkowski, I am 20 years old and a senior at Oakland University. I’ve always been hungry to get involved in the fashion industry. I am easily inspired by the world, especially through art, culture and self-expression. Textures, dramatic looks, finishing touches, makeup and the overall making of a fashion line have always intrigued me. I’ve been reading and skeptically looking into fashion since I was very young, always inspired by upcoming trends and how designers develop a collection. My days usually consist of reading through fashion magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and ELLE. I like to create mood boards from designers that inspire me the most, such as Alexander Wang, Alexander McQueen, Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney. With that being said, I also enjoy doing makeup and being up to date with my personal blogs and Instagram, captivating looks made by others and also creating my own.

I would say that my style is a mix of being urban and chic. I love wearing an outfit that looks effortless yet dramatic. Somehow I always involve a leather jacket or dark colors into my wardrobe. At the same time, I enjoy the empowerment of femininity and freedom, so I like a mix of hippie and chic. High fashion and overall creativity have always been a niche of mine. My experience with fashion has been built upon the foundation of art and culture. I’ve been into portrait and fashion photography for years. My work has been published worldwide and on the billboards of New York City. I’ve also always been interested in painting abstract images with acrylics and also sketching. I feel this has taught me how to be edgy and how to tell a story through my personal style.

I believe that any dream is possible. Intuitively, I feel that fashion has composition in my blood and is something I was born to do. I enjoy the lifestyle of working creatively, being fast-paced and working hard. My imagination has led me towards the passion to write and express myself. I am excited to be a Style Guru because I am interested in learning more about our culture and what society finds fashionable which will help me grow in the industry. I am also eager to write and share my own experiences with others. It’s important to create your own individual style. I’m interested in those that put themselves together in an original, independent way. I am majoring in Marketing with a minor in Advertising.  After graduation, I hope to move to New York City and intern with a designer or editor in the field. My dream job would be to have the careers that Anna Wintour and Amy Astley have. Interning as an assistant for them would be a dream come true.  Eventually, I would like to design my own collection for society to enjoy and wear too. That’s why I find fashion and culture so important, especially on the urban streets. Fashion repeats itself with a twist, and it’s always important to be one step again of the rest.
