STYLE GURU BIO: Connie Wi

Hello lovely readers! I’m going to start off by sharing one of my favorite quotes with you. “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” —Rachael Zoe. One’s style can say so much about a person and my goal is to do just that. My name is Connie Wi and I’m a second year media and cultural studies major at the University of California Riverside. I’m beyond thankful and thrilled to be a part of the #gurugang where I can tell you the stories of my colleagues through their style. If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I document everything. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been a documenter. When I say documenter, I mean an annoyingly consistent documenter. Everyone that follows my snapchat knows this. So, naturally, I had to apply to become a Style Guru so I can blog about the two things I have an unyielding passion for: fashion and beauty.

For my first outfit, I decided to share with you a look that I like to call Connie. Why you may ask? It’s because this outfit screams my personality. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like wearing pants. So what do you do? You wear a pleather mini skirt from Forever 21 with knee-high socks of course! This is a trick I’ve been doing during the “cold” days at Riverside. I paired this duo with a grey knit sweater and a men’s Ralph Lauren, plaid jacket that I took from my grandpa. Don’t be afraid to wear men pieces because fashion has no boundaries! I know it’s almost impossible to ignore, so let’s talk about those glitter boots. Glitter is my favorite color and don’t try to tell me otherwise. Having a statement piece like these boots can really help your personality shine through your outfit. Finally, I decided to accessorize with this simple, black crossbody purse and there you have it!

All in all, I’m going to leave you with this. When you take a look into someone’s closet, you are witnessing one of the strongest weapons of woman/mankind. You are seeing the tools of expression, identity, creativity, and personality. You are feasting your eyes on something that gives you the power to be a bohemian goddess, an edgy ’90s kid, or a chic New Yorker. So, my fellow Fashionista/os, with the power of fashion, I hope you enjoy the styles that I share with you.
